University-Level Generative AI Studies in South Ostrobothnia

Study generative artificial intelligence flexibly and build future-proof skills. This study module provides a unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals and practical applications of generative AI at your own pace. Whether you are a knowledge worker, entrepreneur or IT professional, the module is designed to support both your personal development and your organisation’s competitiveness.

The courses are organised by Tampere University in collaboration with the University Consortium of Seinäjoki (UCS). Studies are offered as flexible online courses and on-site learning opportunities in Seinäjoki. You can complete the studies through open university without a prior higher education degree – all you need is interest and motivation.

Study Structure

The module consists of two 20-credit study packages. You may choose to complete the entire package or select only individual courses. All studies are designed to be completed flexibly alongside work.

1. Generative Artificial Intelligence: User, Language and Interaction (20 credits)

This package is suitable for all knowledge workers and professionals who want to apply AI and large language models in everyday work tasks. You will learn the basics of AI, ethical and societal perspectives, and practical skills for content creation, information retrieval and communication with AI tools.

2. Generative Artificial Intelligence: Applications (20 credits)

This package is aimed at IT professionals and software developers who want to deepen their expertise in AI technologies, such as machine learning, deep learning and LLM fine-tuning.

Local Support and Community

The University Consortium of Seinäjoki offers guidance, orientation sessions and peer-support meetings for students. This ensures you are not studying alone. You have access to support, advice and networks throughout your studies.

Schedule and Application Period

  • Studies begin in August 2025
  • Next intakes: January 2026 and August 2026
  • Applications for the January intake are currently open
  • Study rights for each 20-credit module are valid for two academic years

Costs

The studies are offered through open university and include a course fee:

  • €20 per credit (Category 2)
  • €30 per credit (Category 3)

The total cost of one 5-credit course is €100–150, depending on the category.
Employers can pay course fees on behalf of participants. If your employer pays for your studies, include the correct billing details in the registration form.
