The fields involved from the University of Helsinki Ruralia Institute are rural entrepreneurship, regional policy and foodstuffs.  In these there is research, adult education and development work.  The Ruralia Institute is also significantly involved in international project activity.  It has foreign researchers working there.

The incumbents of two University of Helsinki professorial posts operate in Seinäjoki, in food safety and rural entrepreneurship.
